Thailand Tsunami Videos
Posted by Lance Powers

As the death toll rapidly seems to be climbing to the 100,000 mark I needed to get out of my condo and unplug for a while. I meet up with a Thai friend who asks me if I remember so-and-so from a recent dinner engagement. "Well they found her body yesterday", she tells me sadly. This is a conversation I am having more and more each day. Phuket was arguably the most popular beach destination in the country and was by far my favorite holiday resort - anywhere. I have been there ten or more times, and going there for Christmas seemed the obvious thing to do.
As of today half a dozen people I know from Bangkok, Thai and foreigner, have been confirmed dead. Over the years I have met dozens more people who I have no way to contact. The local Thai media has been running bedside interviews from some of the wounded. As the picture unfolds from what happened here it just seems to just get worse and worse.
More videos are emerging as tourists get back to their home countries. Here are some of the best I have found. Thanks to Jordon Golson at Cheese and Crackers for providing AND hosting them. NOTE: Do not click these directly. Right click, save-as for best results:
Koh Lanta - These are the waves as they approached right from the beach. Amazing. (4.8mb)
Patong - This footage was shot between the first and second waves from a hotel near the beach. (11.7mb)
Phuket - This is Phuket but I'm not sure where. You can get an idea of the force of the first wave from this video. (1.6mb)
Patong - This is the full footage many of us saw on the BBC and CNN from Patong, Phuket. This was quite similar to my own vantage point. (10.2mb)
Phuket - This is from a Surveillance Camera (CCTV) of a tsunami hitting Patong Beach in Phuket.
Phuket - More surveilance video from Phuket Island.
My own personal photos and videos of the aftermath of the Phuket Tsunami are here: http://202.157.186.105:8000/phuket-tsunami-video
I will post more as I find them. Feel free to email me your photos or videos and they will be posted.

I keep hearing this description of the ocean receding, and exposing seafloor for hundreds of meters, prior to the wave coming in.
But in all the videos and photos I've seen, I don't see this phenomenon at all. Did this happen anywhere? Nobody seems to have any photos of it.
It certainly sounds interesting. As a California resident, of course, my first reaction upon seeing this would be to flee the ocean, screaming in terror. We're taught, here, that that's one of the signs of an impending tsunami. Tragic that so many living in Thailand, India, etc, were apparently not taught this.
Sadly, my daughter's best freind is Indian, and had travelled to India during the Christmas Break. We still haven't heard from them, and don't expect to until the 10th, at best.

I urge everyone to pack a box of food, medical supplies, blankets or whatever you can and drop it off at a Red Cross Aid center or other organization that will deliver them to the survivors. My wife and I have gathered stuff we no longer wear, blankets we no longer use, and have bought canned food and dropped it off at a CARE center in Atlanta. If everyone who can do this WOULD do it, then there should be no shortage of relief - each government has declared this needs to be a worldwide effort. The number of dead will continue to rise unless the world community can come together on this one.

hi i am an Indian. I just want 2 c some videos of tsunamis hitting the beach. thanku 4 providing.
I brought THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW just 2 c the part where New York city is getting hit by tsunami, just to exrience & imagine how it was when tsunami had hit these 6 countries.
----As it is stated in Bible---"there will be a massive earthquakes & other natural disasters.....at the end of the days"
So we should turn from our evil ways as we never know whether tomorrow will come our not. Jesus Christ is the only way through whom there is a salvation!

Oh please...Not the religous angle again. Earthquakes are caused by instability in the Earth's crust my friend, not prophecy. Anyways it doesn't hurt to pray for those in need if that is what you want to do, but I think a small donation would serve them better.

I have an archive of Asian Tsunami photos on my archive page: www.photoduck.com/pollyfodder

And just who do you think created the Earth's crust? Oh yeah, the Big Bang Theory. Please!!! The Bible predicts the end of times to be just like the world around us is today. Wars, natural disasters, unexplainable seasons, and non-believers. Ironic that while the world is out to take Jesus out of Christmas, the worst disaster known to us originates on Christmas day while thousands are gathered to celebrate the holiday. How about we pray and give the small donation!!!

Is this getting into a religious topic? Wonder why you would donate if this is the work of devine powers. Forget the prairs (it isnt helping) and just donate.

How do you know prayers are not working? I think it is a miracle that anyone there actually survived. It could have been worse.... much worse.

There is no separating this event from religion. Easy on the end of days stuff though--we've been having catastrophic natural disasters for hundreds of years. We were in the end of days the moment Jesus breathed his last, the temple curtain was split and we were saved. Focus on the truth. 1.We live in a fallen world. Not just man, but the earth itself is fallen and flawed. 2. Nothing separates us from the love of God. "..nor anything else in all creation will be able to.."Romans 8:38. 3. ..God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us." Romans 5:3-5. 5. For those who scoff at such wisdom, these are Jesus's words not mine. "..small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life and only a few find it." Mat 7:13-14. It is in just such a time as this when so many have perished that it is more important than ever to look inside. Every day is a gift.

How about we all stop bleating about it and turning into something else, other than what it is. A absolute catstrophie, that the likes of us will hopefully never see again.
Help with whatever you can, we cause enough problems in the world with our own arguments on who's God is best. This was something a lot bigger than that.

religion is a crock of crap fed to those who dont believe in themselves there is no god and those who believe are scared of dying. you live you die your happy your sad we havent seen a meer smidgen of what the earth and wat surrounds can do and im sure we never will in our lifetime. but hopefully the day will come when the asteroid big enough to turn our earth into non existence and life can start again without the beliefs of religion and god and im sure it would be a better place .
