Girl bites off tongue of sexual assailant

A man whose tongue was partially bitten off during the alleged attempted rape of a female student on Wednesday was made to re-enact the crime after being arrested by police yesterday, a senior officer said.

The 19-year-old suspect, Kriangkrai Koniewklang, who faces possible charges of physical assault and illegal detention of a minor, was arrested at a living compound for construction workers in Pathum Thani, said Metropolitan Police Division 9 commander Maj-General Jirasith Mahinthornthep.

Police said Kriangkrai confessed to the crime. He was then taken to Sirikasem Soi 1 in Bangkok's Bang Khae district to re-enact how he allegedly tried to rape the 17-year-old girl on Wednesday, in the process forcing his tongue into her mouth.

Doctors could not reattach the severed piece of tongue as inflammation had set in and the missing piece had been severed for too long, said the officer. The man was said to be capable of eating, but unable to taste food.Kriangkrai appeared depressed and reticent at the press conference, during which he bowed in apology to the victim's mother. She later said she was not angry with him because her daughter was safe and he was the one who had suffered.
