Da Vinci Code Banned in Thailand

Yep it’s true. THE DA VINCI CODE will be censored in Thailand after the Police Registration Division succumbed to pressure from local Christians. According to Reuters they are gonna hack off the last 10 minutes. I would say I am surprised by this but the ewoks have stopped surprising me with their shenanigans many years ago - therefore I blame the Christians.

But seriously let’s think this through a minute. Hacking off the last 10 minutes and perhaps the end film cliffhanger (if it’s the same as the book) will guarantee a 50% loss in theater traffic no? Like who would be stupid enough to go see that? I will be happy to lead the charge to Silom to secure a pirated copy. Local DVD gangsters will be hella pleased! I mean how retarded are these religious zealots?

Speaking of retarded, I see that Muslims are outraged as well as bible thumpers. Hey fringe freaks – guess what? It’s FICTION. Just a story ya? We promise we won’t get confused and think Jesus was down with the bitches and sired a bunch of brats. Okays? You freaking lunatics.

Then there is the matter that the Da Vinci Code has been in print for 4 years, a gigantic international bestseller, and printed in dozens of languages. You would have to be a complete tit not to have noticed a copy in every bookstore you visit. I bought my girlf friend a Thai copy two years ago. Where was all the lobbying before this book became a movie? Or wait…

What does this suggest? Hmm. To me it looks like these special interest groups don’t spend a lot of timing reading. This is clear. Secondly, and this is the big point, the movie is now a major controversy! Every major newspaper and TV network is running this piece. So now even people who would not have gave a shit will be seeking this film out. Especially your children. Nice!

One final caveat. Thailand is less than 10% Christian. Maybe the Police Registration Devision should consider if the other 90% of the population will be offended if they rip us off at the movie theater?

These people need to wake up and smell the 21st century already. Either that or go blow each other up in the middle east. I’m starting to seriously pine for the latter.
