Culture | Da Vinci Code Banned in Thailand
Yep it’s true. THE DA VINCI CODE will be censored in Thailand after the Police Registration Division succumbed to pressure from local Christians. According to Reuters they are gonna hack off the last 10 minutes. I would say I am surprised by this but the ewoks have stopped surprising me with their shenanigans many years ago - therefore I blame the Christians.Continue reading "Da Vinci Code Banned in Thailand"

A hockey game can show up in the most unlikely of places these days. On the eighth floor of the Central World Plaza shopping mall, for instance, the World Thai Hockey League plays its games, despite outside temperatures of 44C.Continue reading "Hockey Catching on in Bangkok"

Culture | Revenge of the Sith Review
I won't lie to you, I’m a super big Star Wars fan from way back. I waited in line for 5 hours with my mom to brave Revenge of the Jedi in a packed old school prairie theatre which has long since been torn down. I baited an usher at the theatre with $20 ($750 dollars today) for a RTOTJ poster and quickly glued it to the back of my bedroom door. I played with the dolls, watched the Christmas special, and toughed it out through The Phantom Menace and that last one they made. I am pleased to announce I walked out of Major Cineplex (wicked digital screen in Cinema 3!) at the World Trace Center a happy camper today. Here is why...Continue reading "Revenge of the Sith Review"

Culture | "You want to live forever or something?"
To which I reply, "No, but now that we've stretched this mortal coil into the 21st century, making it past about eighteen does seem a fairly reasonable goal for anybody without a terminal illness or a job in a Chinese mine." Aside from places like Thailand, that is. As far as I can tell, Thailand is basically one huge population control measure - a country, culture and mentality designed to deal with the fact that it also seems to be a country, culture and mentality obsessed with sex. Or erectile dysfunction. I think they pretty well amount to the same...Continue reading ""You want to live forever or something?""

Culture | A Trip to the Medicine Man
Mai sabai. After she said this for maybe the hundredth time I figured maybe I had better see if this was a serious matter or not. 'Mai sabai' means 'not happy' or 'not feeling well' for the non Thai linguists reading. I knew from experience that this episode would likely end up in a 4am run to the hospital which normally yields buying bags full of overpriced drugs we don't need and an expensive doctor's bill to boot. Sexy nurses or not it was certainly not in the cards.Continue reading "A Trip to the Medicine Man"
