Who the Hell are we Anyways?
Planetbangkok.com was conceptualized in early 2004 as a simple blog written by a Canadian expat struggling with the daily pains and joys of life in Bangkok (or the 'Kok). Since most online resources discussing Thailand are absolute drivel it seemed like a good idea to provide a different perspective than that of 55 year old Larry, retired truck driver from Montana. The blogosphere is really quite empty for quality material on the subject of Fun City, so we hope this space might some day become a bit of a sound board for those of us lost souls, beating a slow morbid path to soi zero.
Alright this is supposed to be a contact page not a freaking about us page so I will get down to it. As this blog grew I met other Canadian expats interested in contributing articles. The 3 twisted minds behind PB are
Lance Powers (inventor of the Merkin)
Lance operates websites for a living but you wouldn't know it from his lackluster performace on Planetbangkok.com. Lance's pieces date back to when the site first opened and you will have to dig around to find them. They are gawdamn funny too I swear it. Lance was also featured in a BBC story and several newspapers interviewed him after he witnessed the December 26th Tsunami on Patong Beach, Phuket
Rick Salazar (actual Darth Vader stunt double)
After retiring from a long career as an elite stunt man in many Bollywood feature films Rick has settled in Thailand where he works as a film producer by day and career gigolo at night. You can find Rick singing backup vocals at Country Road II, performing magic tricks for tourists along Sukhumvit, or fighting with some chick outside your condo. Rick is middle-aged but you wouldn't know it from his libido which is said to rival that of Shaquille Oneill and the whole Lakers franchise combined. Seriously though Rick is the most avid poster at PB and of course he is Canadian, so that's inherently cool as well.
Terrance Mann (soon to be teaching yer young'ins)
Terrance is the youngest member of the crew supplying perhaps the most sane approach to life in Thailand. Terrance lives in tropical Phuket where he works as a teacher brightening the minds of Thailand's well dressed young students. Terrance has been known to not date his pupils as well as maintain a strict policy of beer only on weekends. This is still open for debate as Terrance is also, you guessed it - a lowly Canuck. If things don't work out teaching Terrance plans to take a career in surfing or gynecology.
